Norfolk Week 2021

I hope that everyone who sailed in Norfolk Week this year enjoyed themselves. It was a pleasure to resume again after a year’s break and a good week despite the ominous weather forecasts of the previous week. Last year was the only time since 1949 that the regatta was not sailed. How delightful it was to see so many familiar faces (and boats) as well as many new ones.

After the first day, all the familiar sail numbers were back in my memory and by the end of the week all the numbers of all the week’s entrants.

The winds were interesting, and the heavy winds at Overy certainly made up for the zephyrs of Wells, but the sun seemed to shine most of the time with no rain to speak of.

As usual I enjoyed driving through the North Norfolk countryside in the early morning to reach each venue extremely pleasant. Little traffic and beautiful scenery.

If for any reason you are in this neck of the woods, you are welcome to visit any of the N.W.N.S.A. clubs - if you are boatless but would like to sail, then the O.A.S.C. has boats available. Sailing at Saddlebow occurs every Sunday from February to Boxing Day at 10.30 a.m. and every Wednesday evening in May, June and July at 6.45 p.m. (but check the website, oasc.co.uk, for February).

Provisional dates for Norfolk Week in 2022 are July 24th. to July 30th., but keep checking, just in case.

Good, successful and enjoyable sailing for the rest of the season.

David Baddeley

Commodore, N.W.N.S.A. (and also O.A.S.C. )
