From the Commodore

Normally at this time of year the Association Officers and participating Sailing Clubs would be making final preparations for the biggest event in the West Norfolk sailing calendar: the North West Norfolk Sailing Association Regatta, known colloquially as Norfolk Week.

As we are all aware, this is no ordinary year and so for the first time since 1949 when this event started, there will be no Norfolk Week. I am sure that this is as disappointing to all intended competitors as it is to the Association and the participating clubs.

One of the great pleasures of the week is not only the sailing, but the meeting with all the many regular competitors and getting to know the new ones. I have enjoyed this week from sailing my Enterprise in 1973 to 2005 and as Commodore since 2009. It has been good over the years seeing young sailors who started by crewing growing up to helming their own boats, and in many cases ending as fleet champions.

Please do not forget us: the dates for 2021 are Saturday July 24th to Saturday July 31st. The officers, myself, and the sailing clubs are looking forward to meeting up with you all again next year, when we hope to make it a week to remember.

Best wishes and good health to you all with good sailing until we meet again.
